hands of the day aka the value of checking back

I had just lost a large pot to this guy making a fairly loose call down with a flopped top two when he had flopped the nut flush. It certainly wasn't a great call, but I thought a quick 3bet might not get a lot of credit. When he 4-bets he's bluffing a decent amount of the time, we're flipping a decent amount of the time, and he has AK, AA, KK, QQ a decent amount of the time which have me crushed. If I get it in against his range I'm not doing great, but I can flat pf and outplay him on a lot of flops. It is a play I only used rarely, but in this case I felt that this villain would play very straight forward postflop and I'd know what to do. anway so here is the hand:
